From the oddly titled "Liberals retreat to alternative ball":
There were no cowboy hats, no cowboy boots. The only fur coat on the rack was a fake one. While 50,000 revelers celebrated Thursday night at nine official balls across the city, a couple hundred people chose the company of fellow liberals at an "Alternative Inaugural Ball" downtown...
Comedian and radio show host Al Franken was one of the star draws for the evening.
"People are saying, 'You know, it's not so bad,'" Franken said, referring to President Bush's re-election. "It's terrible!" [I think that's one of his jokes -- LW]
Franken mocked Bush's inauguration speech's call to support freedom around the world, saying the United States supports allies like Uzbekistan that repress their people.
He also challenged Bush's high ground on values, particularly concerning the war in Iraq.
"What is the morality of going to war on false premises?" said Franken, who is mulling a challenge to Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., in 2008.
Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., said progressives must make the case that Bush's policies are hurting minorities, gays and poor and working people...
365gay gives this AP report the title "Barney Frank: Gays & Poor To Feel Effects Of New Bush Term". What, they forgot the minorities?
This or a similar "party" is described in "Counter-inaugural balls ease pain for some Dems". Stuart makes an appearance there as well.
And, in somewhat related news, "Franken-rats thrive on chips".
News of Stuart's latest ambition spotted by keen-eyed blogger TalkLeft.

But the facts prove Barney wrong. The tax cuts made the tax system MORE progressive. Jobs are being created, pay is up...
The Democrats are on their way to oblivion and they don't even know it.
