Former AAR CEO Evan Cohen has been located... in Los Angeles!
"It's amusing," Cohen said on his cell phone. "Everyone says I'm missing. But here I am."
Despite the unimportance of this scandal, investigators from Radar Online managed to located the elusive former Guamian:
The real Evan Cohen has also been much sought after by the right-wing blogosphere, which is in a tizzy over recent disclosures that Cohen borrowed a whopping $875,000 from the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in the Bronx to help fund Air America, which burned through more than $8 million between November 2003 and May 2004. New York City’s Department of Investigations and state district attorney Eliot Spitzer are investigating the transactions.
Cohen says that Gloria Wise knew what was going on:
Cohen declined to discuss the details of the Gloria Wise loans, other than to dispute a report earlier this month in the Sun that claimed that Cohen told Gloria Wise board members that the loans were intended to cover medical expenses for a sick relative. "There were no discussions of anything other than Air America Radio," he told Radar. "There was no question where the resources were going."
Members of the Gloria Wise executive committee described to the Sun transfers from the club to Mr. Cohen and to Air America that totaled $875,000. They said Sunday that one reason Mr. Cohen cited when asking for personal loans was that he needed money for chemotherapy because he suffered from brain cancer... Mr. Franken said he did not know whether his former colleague had the disease, but he recalled that Mr. Cohen, a native of Guam who is 39, referred repeatedly to it. For example, Mr. Franken said, he'd complain to Mr. Cohen that studio equipment wasn't working, "and he'd say, 'You know, I have brain cancer.'" ..."Brain cancer," Mr. Franken said, "seemed to be his answer to everything."
The latest article also makes this damning claim about AAR's "magnanimous" gesture:
...according to two sources familiar with the case, in a settlement between Cohen, his partner Rex Sorensen, and the new Air America team that was agreed to last year—long before the loans ever became public—the network explicitly agreed to repay the Gloria Wise debt. Air America is paying up for no other reason than because it has to.
Further, Cohen says he was never really "missing", people just haven't been trying hard enough to get in touch with him.
