Katherine Lanpher flees Al Franken Show

Katherine Lanpher is leaving the Al Franken Show as of October 7.

The former columnist and NPR host will concentrate on writing a book for a new TW imprint:

"When I met with the Time Warner people in July, I started telling stories... At the end of the meeting they asked me if I had anything else to write. I said, 'No, I have this pesky day job.' They said, 'We'd like to try to help you make more time to write.' They gave me an advance and I walked out of the building feeling like I had a marriage proposal."

UPDATE: AAR posts this, which generates:

Her radio experience was essential. But her "DLC ideology" is increasingly "out of place" in the war for the soul of the republic in which we are now engaged against the radical reactionaries in control of the levers of our government.

But:

When I first started listening almost one year ago, I wondered why my hero, Al Franken, needed a babysitter. I soon found out.

OTOH:

I personally couldn't stand Katherine, though I do think Al certainly needs a co-host. Obviously the people who still listen are the ones who could tolerate her (myself and a few others excluded), because those potential fans that can't stand her TUNED OUT a LONG time ago and certainly don't frequent this blog.

And:

To be perfectly honest, I can soon listen to Al's show without cringing, and without my finger forever on the mute button. I'm sure Katherine is a very intelligent, decent and nice person, but her insane, uncontrollable, unattractive and endlessly annoying cackling, guffaws, snorts and braying have forced me to limit my listening according to how much I've just eaten. I'm sure Al loves her - what comedian doesn't love laughter - but because of her I have never been able to fully enjoy his show. I am, quite frankly, relieved to see her go. I hope they find a replacement - and Al needs a partner - who can laugh like a normal person. But I DO wish her the best with her book.

UPDATE 2: The DUmmies weigh in.

I'm very sorry to hear that Katherine is leaving the Frankin Show. She really kept Al on track, and on Subject!! Al seems to drift off quite frequentley. The AAR posting of September 30th is a bit extreme regarding Katherine's "uncontrollable, unattractive cackling, guffaws, and snorts".....because Al himself does'nt do to badly in that department himself!! Anyway, I have, and will continue to tune into Al's show every weekday morning, with or without Katherine Lanpher, although I will definately miss her. Hopefully her replacement will be equally as good a sidekick as she.

Who listens to this insufferably boring show. When was the last time Franken was funny -if ever. I listened a few times trying hard to enjoy a different point of view and was thoroughly dissapointed. The Oy Oy Show? David Brock a regular? Without the Soros money they would have been gone a loooong time ago.
