Ana Marie Cox - Wonkette - joins Air America Radio

This site has been online since March 2004, even before Air America Radio started. And, for the first time in that almost-five-year period, I am actually afraid for and sympathetic with Air America. And, that's because of the news that Ana Marie Cox - aka Wonkette - will be joining their network beginning January 19.

Now, mind you, she's not as vile and evil as, say, Jane Hamsher. But, unlike Hamsher she's occasionally coherent. And, she combines that slightly-less-vileness with a sub-juvenile sense of humor and a lack of interest in real reporting. She herself admits she's just a lightweight. When she was at Time's Swampland, she specialized in uploading lolcats. No, really.

Per this, she's going to be first covering the inauguration, and then she'll be off to "traverse the U.S. to profile people and stories that illustrate American life." Will it be called "Backdoor to America"?

Bill Hess, senior vice president of programming for Air America, said her curiosity about issues facing Americans "promises to serve as the foundation for lively reports and commentaries from the capital and from the Main Streets of America."

Scratch that: "Backdoor to the Main Streets of America".
