The reason a person is a conservative republican is because something is wrong with them. Again, that's science – that's neuroscience. You cannot be well adjusted, open-minded, pluralistic, enlightened and be a republican. It's counter-intuitive. And they revel in their anti-intellectualism. They revel in their cruelty.Good stuff! Especially the pun about a "d***" "cleaving". Say, I'm sure everyone knew this:
...I don't know if you heard me talking to Jenny a while ago, but I was saying that first you have to be an a**hole and then comes the conservatism. You gotta be a d*** to cleave onto their ideology...
"I grew up in a very conservative, religious household. And my father's conservative politics dominated... When I was a little kid, I just took what he said verbatim. I just assumed he was telling me the truth. As I got into junior high and high school, I started feeling that there was something wrong with his vision of the world but I still didn't say anything. But then when I got to college, I would sort of espouse a lot of the right-wing nonsense that he always indoctrinated us into and finally one time, a friend at college looked at me when we were in a group and said, 'You're an asshole.' And I remember being devastated at the time but she was right. I was espousing this, at-the-time Reagan-era, conservative mythology—those fraudulent narratives and that unkind vision of the world that conservatives have. There's nothing weird going on here at all.
...I was just repeating the crap my dad was saying, trying to sound like I knew what I was talking about. That devastating day turned out to be one of the best things that happened to me—even though I was terribly embarrassed and unhappy at the time..."
