On Thursday night, Chuck D, a founding member of celebrated rap group Public Enemy, delivered a free-wheeling talk at Union College, where he touched on subjects such as history, sociology and musicology, to name a few.If I hadn't impulsively created a Chuck D category several months ago, this entry wouldn't be here.
About 200 people attended the talk, called "Race, Rap, Reality and Technology."
The rap star was energized by his surroundings, the ornate, 16-sided Nott Memorial, and told students they should be proud of the history surrounding them...

"You cannot blame people for coming up with conspiracy theories," Air America host Chuck D. said, after he was asked Thursday about the paranoid pronouncement by MSNBC's Tucker Carlson.Even after a third try, ChuckD stayed the course. Then, Tucker turned to Rachel, who had this to say:
"They look on television and see that the government is four days late in saving people [who are] supposed to be their citizens," Chuck D. explained.
Carlson gave him a second chance to denounce Farrakhan's lunatic declaration, saying, "You're a smart guy. You know that white people didn't blow up the levees to kill black people. You've gotta know that didn't happen."
But the Air America host refused to budge, insisting instead that there was a chance Farrakhan could be right.
"Conspiracy theories don't necessarily help but you have to understand where they come from... They come from people feeling like this disaster had a real racial component. I mean, it was a majority-black city that was absolutely abandoned by the country."

ChuckD's new show starts Sunday May 29th evening, Billboard reports. Called "On The Real," it will probably not feature an appearance by former Unfiltered co-star Lizz Winstead. It will, however, feature an appearance by Jamie Foxx.
According to writer/producer Gia Garel, we can expect: "music, comedy and verbal sparring highlighting the impact of current, global, sociopolitical issues."
As if that wasn't enough, a voluntary statement promulgated by Air America Co-COO/president of programming Jon Sinton educates us that: "Chuck D and Gia's show will provide listeners with the perfect mix of political activism and pop culture".
UPDATE: I originally spelled Garel's name the same way it was in Billboard's piece, which turns out to be wrong. It's now correct, and it links to her horribly-designed website. The "GG.COM" that follows your mouse around adds that extra 90s touch. No flash tags were spotted, although they and a few Java applets might be somewhere on her site.

According to him, he wasn't fired and he hasn't left AAR. In fact, he'll be coming back next month with a new Sunday night show: "But a daily presence of a person of color besides Mark Riley in the morning could be needed to balance some of the things that appear to be redundant after about 5pm. Air America is still a necessary signal."

After a discussion with an ACLU member concerning the FL and NYC police monitoring rap stars, ChuckD said that people of color and women need to realize that they're all part of the "collective." No, Chuck, you aren't supposed to be so explicit. Likewise, "Marxist dialectic" is right out.
P.S. Welcome Wonkette readers. I have two guest bloggers lined up, I just need to configure things. And, I'm looking for more guest bloggers who can post here occasionally. But, you must have a blog so I can verify you aren't a leftie in disguise. See this message for more information.
