Jerry Springer highlight reel from Air America Radio

Jerry Springer has put together a tape with his highlights from his glory days on Air America Radio. That's Randi Rhodes around the 4 minute mark:

Jerry Springer dumps radio show; WSAI dumps lib talk?

This should come as no surprise: Jerry Springer is officially ending his failed, boring radio "career" this week. Only about two dozen Air America affiliates were still running it, and moreover WSAI (AM 1360) in Cincinnati - a Clear Channel station - may decide to dump liberal talk entirely:
[His] show and the station have rarely gotten over a one share and have consistently finished in the bottom third in the ratings out of some 30 area stations.
Don't cry for Jerry, America!
It may be the success of Springer's appearance on "Dancing with the Stars" that forced his hand. Springer has had several offers to appear in commercials, movies and TV shows since the country was exposed to the self-deprecating, kinder, gentler Jerry.

Springer, who has recorded two CDs, may even rejuvenate his tongue-in-cheek country singing career. Country singer Sara Evans, a fellow "Dancing With the Stars" contestant, has asked Springer to make appearances on stage during her upcoming tour.
While waiting for his next career move, enjoy this flashback. Who could be dumb enough to pay a prozzie with a check? Jerry Springer, that's who.

My Jerry Springer posts never existed, were always Stephanie Miller posts

Comrades:

I would like to take this opportunity to offer a full, complete, and entirely contrite apology and a full recount of my crimes against society.

In the past, this category has featured posts about a fictional character named "Jerry Springer". There is no such person, there never has been such a person, his website was never at www.springerontheradio.com, and he never had a radio show on Air America Radio (which is America's only source for the truth).

I was led astray by reactionary forces, which convinced me that this person existed and had a radio show. They were wrong. The pages from his site that can be found at archive.org have been planted there by anti-people forces that I shall shortly name. These forces are the enemies of the state, and I repudiate them and all that they stand for.

It will take much to make amends for my actions, which I shall do henceforth from a thatched hut in Indianapolis.

Jerry Springer: ashamed of his radio show?

Jerry Springer appeared on Tuesday night's Jimmy Kimmel Show, and the following is an accurate representation of his appearance:
[...five minutes of blather about his appearance on Dancing with the Stars, with several references to the Jerry Springer (TV) Show...]

Jimmy Kimmel: ...And you're doing a radio show...
Jerry Jerry Jerry: Yeah, every morning...

[...three minutes of blather about his appearance on Dancing with the Stars, with several references to the Jerry Springer (TV) Show...]
Certainly, Jerry could have just been there to plug his new dancing career, but giving such short shrift to something he does a few hours every weekday is odd. Unless, of course, that's the only thing he's ever done that he's ashamed of.

Springer show "horrid", did "a lot of damage"

WPUL-AM 1590 (Daytona Beach, Florida) switched from gospel to "liberal" a year ago, but not the "Air America" brand of "liberal". Rather, they have a constellation of Jones Radio hosts as well as others: Bill Press, Stephanie Miller, Al Sharpton, The Tawana Brawley Show, Big Dumb Ed Schultz, etc. (A parenthetical note: yes, that Al Sharpton graphic is going to be featured here in the future in some way, and, yes, until seeing that page I didn't know what Lionel looked like.)

And, so you don't get confused:
Jones Radio is not to be confused with Air America, a liberal radio network that has filed for bankruptcy. Both networks began syndicating liberal radio shows in 2004. WPUL began carrying Jones programs in September 2005.

Jones is not exclusively progressive. It also produces the conservative Neal Boortz show, which plays on local station WNDB.

[Amy Bolton, the vice president of news and talk for the Jones Radio Networks] said Jones does not use the same "flawed business model" which doomed Air America.

Her network allows local stations to pick the programming they want, while clients of Air America have to take all of its programs, which means Al Franken, as well as Jerry Springer.

"Springer's show did a lot of damage," Bolton said. "His show was horrid."

Jerry Springer on Dancing with the Stars

kym johnson jerry springer dancing with the stars

In what is probably his cleanest, most reputable gig yet, Jerry Springer will be appearing on the show 'Dancing with the Stars' alongside Tucker Carlson and a host of other nobodies, also-rans, and no-talents. This is at least a more honorable gig than working on Air America Radio or - of course - shoveling sleaze into America's living room on his TV show.

Springer's partner will be Aussie professional Kym Johnson, pictured right. Joining the "Mayor of Hell" and the bow-tod pundit will be:

football great Emmitt Smith, actress Vivica A. Fox and former "L.A. Law" star Harry Hamlin... The eclectic talent lineups of the show's first two seasons included supermodel Rachel Hunter, former child actress Tatum O'Neal, soap opera vixen Kelly Monaco, boxing champ Evander Holyfield, actor John O'Hurley and rapper Master P.

Wait, it gets better: the host is Tom Bergeron of America's Funniest Home Videos and Hollywood Squares.

No, wait, it gets even better: another celebrity will be Joey Lawrence from Blossom.

Randi Rhodes, Jerry Springer mourn for Zarqawi

Bill O'Reilly's people have been listening to Air America:
JERRY SPRINGER, AIR AMERICA: We never should have gone in from day one. Now — and I understand tens of thousands of people have been killed because we chose to go into Iraq. That is true. We killed a hell of a lot more people just by the decision to go into Iraq than ever died at the hands of Zarqawi.

...RANDI RHODES, AIR AMERICA: Even the White House press secretary says this today at the press briefing. He says if you look at some of the Al Qaeda memos to Zarqawi, where you had direct pleas -- will you please stop beheading people, it's bad PR. Then you have to say to yourself, my god, Al Qaeda is telling Zarqawi to cut the crap with the killing of the Iraqis. And yet, we haven't cut the crap with the killing of the Iraqis.

Is that unbelievably despicable or what? I mean, it is off the chart. The far-left blogs also spit out hateful propaganda. This from the Huffington Web site:

"How many people even heard of Zarqawi before Bush invaded Iraq? Bush made this guy into a hero and now he's taking credit for killing him."
Lest you think these are just isolated incidents of liberalism at its looniest:
Another [DailyKos] user named "ronik" expressed a similar sentiment: "If you agree with this killing, do you also agree with lynchings because people 'knew' the person was guilty and should be put to death? Also, do you support the death penalty? I don't, but at least those people have been put on trial. Why should it be different for this person?"

...another Daily Kos member offered consolation about Zarqawi's death, opining that, "This too shall pass."

...Some liberals thought Zarqawi had been given an unfair reputation. "How do you know 'he was guilty of masterminding suicide bombings and beheadings of innocent civilians'? Did you hear this on the MSM? Or are you privy to information the rest of us don't have access to?" asked Daily Kos user "Johann."
UPDATE: More here:
[Stephanie Miller was] playing clips of the Rose Garden Bush remarks and just mocking his accent. "He's extra-twangy today," mocked Miller. The show's impressionist started doing Bush in a William Buckley-esque Connecticut accent, implying the Texas talk is all phony.

Then they began joking "we're auditioning for a new boogey-man," as if Zarqawi was a phantom in a closet.

...Miller also suggested at one point that perhaps the picture of Zarqawi's corpse might reveal "smoke from dry ice," as if the U.S. was suspiciously delaying their victory for ultimate political gain?

[Randi Rhodes] was saying Zarqawi was our boy, someone we protected in the no-fly zone from Saddam Hussein, and then used as an excuse for war. A few minutes later, she complained it was a "sick, psychotic" day for news, and said the rulers of America were "imperialistic, hegemonistic....dictators."

Sean Hannity to stoop to Jerry Springer's level

Usually, debates are held between closely matched people and groups. And, most major stars aren't willing to receive the same billing as lesser lights.

Therefore, it comes as a bit of a surprise that Sean Hannity will be debating Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Springer on Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! February 25 at Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun. It's part of Clear Channel's "Battle of the Talk Show Hosts". But wait, there's more: you have to pay $30 to see it, and $100 for a reception before the debate.

The new, serious Jerry Springer will not be accompanied by an entourage of transsexual adulterous Little People.

Lady Bunny on Jerry Springer on Tookie Williams

"Lady Bunny" is a "Southern transvestite showgirl", and she informs us that on or about December 13, Jerry Springer:

was advocating that state executions be broadcast on tv. "If it's not to disturbing to be done then it's not too disturbing to be seen"--to paraphrase him. It's a good point. If you are advocating the death penalty, be prepared to watch it. Maybe we'd even develop a taste for it like the ancient Romans or bring back pillories in town squares. Jerry also made the point that centuries ago, we did many things which would disgust people today.

Then, "Bunny" launches into reciting the false talking points which Hollywood celebs and various other far-lefties have planted in his little mind, complete with a creepy pic of the left's newest martyr. I'm not going to bother repeating anything else, but if you're from a marketing department or something you might want to read it as an example of how gullible and superficial some people can be. The Air America audience defined.

Jerry Springer offers advice for Dr. Phil

And, he did so on the Joe Scarborough Show. MSNBC headlines their report/transcript "Springer weighs in on issues facing Dr. Phil", which sounds like something you might read in a (just as a fr'instance) Indian or Filipino newspaper involving two national celebrities that you've never heard of. The surreality continues throughout:
...SCARBOROUGH: All of a sudden, he seems to be getting out of his wheelhouse and looking kind of goofy. That's what Dr. Phil would say about himself, if he were taking himself on the couch, saying he is being goofy here. At what point does he start endangering this empire?

SPRINGER: Well, obviously, if there's a successful lawsuit against him and his credibility is then questioned, his empire is in danger then...

Calling all Jerry Springer on the Radio fans!

"The Professor" from the blog of the "freeform" radio station WFMU describes "Air America's Next Big Mistake (part 2)". Obviously, he left out a few parts, but he recommends keeping both Rachel Maddow and Marc Maron, while trimming Jerry Springer's time or just buying him out completely. He also points out, as I have, that few listeners are enthused about Jerry Springer.

Jerry Springer disavows Air America, knowledge of scandal

On Sept. 29, a caller to the Jerry Springer show managed to ask him about the Air America scandal, and here's what the former Trash TV host said:

Okay, uh, honestly. Uh, on some of the stations around the country, I'm on Air America. On some of the stations around the country, I'm not on Air America. So, uh, I, you know, I can't answer that because the truth is I don't know. Once I find something out about it, I'm willing to address it. I'm not dodging it all. Uh, but, you know, again, most of the people listening to me are not listening to me on Air America, so I can't deal with that...

Apparently Springer is on 44 stations, and all but 14 are AAR affiliates. It's OK, in the same situation anyone would not want to be associated with that network.

Jerry Springer and schizophrenia

jerryspringer.com

Time to check in with Jerry Springer. Since there didn't appear to be anything of interest at springerontheradio.com, I decided to check out jerryspringer.com, a site that I'd never visited before. Frankly, I wasn't expecting little more than a doorway page, but all I found there was two links: one to his TV site, and the other to his radio site. One will, of course, note the rather dramatic difference: on the left, the decline of western civilization and, on the right, a far sleepier road to ruin.

I note also that Springer's radio site is getting more visits than before, around 1300 a day. A good number of those are from jerryspringer.com.

However, consider what I pointed out in this post. If a good number of people are searching for his name, and the #1 choice is his schizo site, and he's getting so few hits to his radio site, then that probably means that most of those going to the doorway are choosing the old, non-political Jerry.

Bisexual crab named after Jerry Springer

Watermen in the Chesapeake Bay recently caught a very rare crab that's part male, part female. They decided to name it after Jerry Springer.

The cover story is provided by the WaPo:

The watermen thought it was strange enough to be on "The Jerry Springer Show."

Uh huh.

Say, did you know that Springer (a multimillionaire who calls himself "The Voice of the Middle Class") has a site just for his radio show? Feel free to go pay him a visit, he needs the traffic.

Jerry Springer radio career questioned

If you go to Springer on the Radio you'll see the sitemeter icon, which looks somewhat like the icon at the end of the right navigation bar here. Clicking that, you'll see that Springer is currently getting an average of just 1004 visits per day to that site. Bear in mind that sitemeter appears to be located on each page of his site. Needless to say, that's an incredibly low amount of traffic for someone who is a household name and has his own radio show.

If you look at the referring sites, you'll see that he has backlinks from his other sites, from AAR's site, from station sites, etc. etc. However, what you'll not see is a lot of search engine traffic. This is despite his radio site showing up as #4 behind his other sites when you search for his name.

In fact, overture shows 35,000 searches for his name in April. However, just 200 were for 'jerry springer radio'.

I've previously joked about that site getting such low traffic because his audience only has access to the internet at public libraries and other facilities. However, that doesn't appear to be that far off. Very few people seem to be interested in his new career, and it doesn't look like his earlier audiences are transferring over to the new and thoughtful Jerry.

Blogger Verdict: Citizen Verdict sucks

There's a new film out featuring Jerry Springer entitled "Citizen Verdict". Summary here. They've even got their own site for the movie, complete with a form into which you can enter your email address for some reason. The plot actually mimics an idea I had many years ago, in which an audience could act as a jury and decide whether an alleged criminal is guilty and then pass sentence, including executing them. Now compare that with the plot of Citizen Verdict:
Springer plays reality TV producer Marty Rockman, whose latest project allows viewers to hear evidence in a high-profile capital murder case, decide the defendant's guilt or innocence, then watch the execution on pay-per-view television.
And, from the same source:
As a film critic, there isn't much here to like. As someone who loves movies, I couldn't stop enjoying the determined way Citizen Verdict aims low and hits the target.
Fly to Tampa and catch it quick before the only place you can find it is in the DVD remainder bin at the Pascagoola KMart.

The march of the pregnant transsexual bigamists

Today's Jerry Springer Show featured a look back at Kent State, thirty-five years later:

Jerry will talk personally about that event and wonder why today's generation doesn't put the pressure of the streets on today's leaders.

In conjunction, Springer is currently running a poll asking, "Are massive street demonstrations in America a thing of the past?" With 118 votes and 53%, the leader is "No; some large event will still spur huge civil protest."

I fully support the rights of the citizenry to peacefully assemble and protest. However, if I didn't know better it might sound like Springer was encouraging people to take to the streets. Perhaps with his past guests in the lead.

(P.S. Please visit the Springer blog. His radio blog only gets slightly more traffic than this and my main political blog, and I don't mind spreading some traffic around.)

Megan Hils obsessive about social security

Kimberly Shroyer in the Queen City Forum has the scoop on Springer sidekick Megan Hils:
...And her charm isn't manufactured. As the female sidekick to Springer and Jene Galvin, she joins two men who have been friends and political allies since the 70s on this cutting edge liberal call-in radio show based in Cincinnati . She doesn't pretend to be naturally schooled in politics. Galvin quips, "She's in the room because she says to young listeners and female listeners, 'Hey, I'm in this.' They have someone in there that is like [them]."

Megan says her charm has nothing to do with it; she changes the dynamic of who is listening and how it's received. "I think I bring a youth perspective. I'm a little more center of the road than [Jerry and Jene]; they're extreme for anybody. I don't agree with Jerry and Jene on everything, but I think it's good to bounce ideas off of each other."

This year's election brought out many people who normally do not vote. Hils connects to that feeling as she intangibly grows with her listeners. "I have formed much stronger opinions about everything. For example, Social Security didn't really ever enter my daily thought. And now it's something I'm constantly thinking about; just every day things that I didn't realize how political they are..."
Note that that page includes two huge photos inline, both featuring Hils. While Hils is certainly interesting, Kimberly steals the show.

And, we learn that Jerry Springer has eschewed the Queen City for doing his part of the show from the Windy City.

(Via this)

UPDATE: I meant to discuss this in the post, but I forgot. You'll note that the tagline for the Queen City Forum is "always in it, always on it, always want it." And, you'll note that Jene Galvin says "I'm in this" and "They have someone in there".

You might be confused over this use of "in [something]", and you aren't alone. However, that usage is specific to the Queen City. In other words, they're Cincyisms. Roughly translated into English, to say that you're "in it" means, "I'm committed to building international Communism and struggling against the reactionary counterrevolutionary bourgeoise oppressors of the proletariat." Like I said, it's a Cincy thing.

The thoughtful side of Jerry Springer

Despite the title, "Taking out the trash" from the Chicago Tribune is a generally favorable portrait of America's favorite liberal. Grab a chair and check it out:
..."We did sophisticated polling and focus groups, and there's no question the show is a negative," [Dale Butland, Springer's political spokesman] says. "People are willing to get past it, but what they also said clearly is that there has to be some separation between him and the show."

..."We like the other side of Jerry--the thoughtful guy who has been a politician and policy-maker," says Jon Sinton, Air America's co-chief operating officer.

Sinton says the network was a little worried that listeners would react negatively to Springer, but early feedback has been surprisingly positive.

Springer "is a richly complex guy, and his TV persona melts away in the first 30 seconds you listen to his show," Sinton said. "He's a great spokesperson for a large number of Americans..."

[...describes a visit to a taping of the Springer (TV) show...]

"This is a guy who exploits human misfortune for a living," says Jason Mauk, a spokesman for the Ohio Republican Party. "And he expects that somehow Ohioans are shallow enough to set that aside and elect him to office. He has no moral or ethical ground to stand on."

"He's got a fat wallet," Mauk says. "They hope he'll drop a couple dollars while he's walking by. The number of people who hate him or what he represents--maybe not him personally--far outweighs the political support he needs to win in Ohio..."
Springer might run for governor of Ohio, and he has until February to get his name on the ballot. But, for now he's concentrating on serving as liberalism's spokesman on Air America.

The Trib also publishes a sidebar entitled "Springer's career":
...1974: He resigns from the Cincinnati council after police raid a Kentucky massage parlor and find a personal check Springer had written to a prostitute. He apologizes and is re-elected a year later...

Random musings April 15 2005

Eclipse Ramblings informs the world that two unspecified Air America hosts on an unspecified AAR station don't know the difference between an Uzi and an AK-47: "To make such nonsensical statements, the on-air "personalities" at Err America have to be woefully ignorant or are knowingly telling lies. Either one is not good."

On the other side of town, geographic unknown let's us all know: "Next Wednesday, April 20th, Mike Malloy the overnight host on Air America is going to have a Freeper call-in show for the first hour of his show."

And, concerning our post "Liberal hypocrisy at Air America?" I left a comment at springerontheradio.com (Springer's official blog) asking if Team Springer! had a comment on the article "Ethnic Cleansing at Air America". Let's see how long the comment stays there and if it gets a response.

I also note that the sitemeter stats for Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!'s blog are public, and they don't look too good: an average of 1345 unique visits per day.

Not that this blog's stats look too good either, but then again I don't have my own national radio show and I don't have backlinks from:

http://www.airamericaradio.com/shows/springer/
http://www.wtam.com/main.html
http://www.jerryspringer.com/
http://www.700wlw.com/main.html
http://www.wcky.com/lineup.html
[... and probably many more radio stations...]

I note that the google search jerry springer radio has Jerry's site as #3, so it's not like google is ignoring him. Despite that, he shows almost no google traffic.

I think it's a combination of two factors: no one really cares, and Jerry's fans only have computer access at libraries and other public facilities.

4/16/05 UPDATE: I looked at Springer's stats again and his daily average has gone down. And, out of 100 referrals he got maybe a dozen from google. He does have a lot of hits listed without a referral, so those might be type-ins or bookmarks. But, even so if it were my blog I'd be very curious as to why I'm getting so little SE traffic.

Jerry Springer to rescue liberalism, liberal radio

The NY Times covers his first day in "Politics, Yes, but No Fistfights for Jerry Springer on Radio":
...His critics may scoff at being called crass by the host of such television episodes as "Male Siamese Twins" and "I Refuse to Wear Clothes." But Mr. Springer insists his radio program is political, and a far cry from his television program...

In recruiting Mr. Springer, Air America Radio got an established celebrity with a dedicated audience...

Each personality on Air America draws "a slightly different audience composition," said Danny Goldberg, the chief executive of Air America, a subsidiary of Progress Media. "What we're trying to do is broaden out the progressive audience."

Mr. Goldberg added that Mr. Springer appealed to a large national fan base. "He's got a real brilliance at talking about complicated political ideas in a conversational, accessible manner," he said...
"The Rhetoric" asks: Will they guests fight until an Air America radio security guard gets involved? A take from the other side here. Includes a review of "Left of the Dial"! A 1998 article includes the following:
"He exploits every human vulnerability and every debased human behavior for the sake of ratings," said Robert Peters, spokesman for Morality In Media, a New York-based organization that monitors the content of TV shows. "The show focuses on the kind of behavior that civilized people have been trying to curb since the beginning of civilization."
Plus ca change...

"Jerry Springer Joins Air America "

MediaWeek reports:

Jerry Springer has signed on to become a part of the Air America Radio lineup, the liberal network announced Wednesday. Beginning April 1, Springer on the Radio will air 9 a.m. to noon, replacing Unfiltered, formerly co-hosted by Lizz Winstead, who mysteriously exited the network last month.

Signing with Air America will immediately give Springer clearance in an additional 45 markets, including New York. His show debuted in January on WCKY-AM, Clear Channel's Progressive Talk station in Cleveland. Clear Channel, which has been rolling out Progressive Talk stations across the country, also cleared Springer's show on stations Detroit, Miami and San Antonio...

All of us at Bore America are ecstatic about this news, as the joke that is Mike Malloy was wearing a bit thin. Jerry will be sure to give us new and entertaining material in the weeks to come. Look for posts about Jerry in the "PureClass" category we just made just for him.
