Thus it is with Janeane Garofalo who appeared on last night's Real Time with Bill Maher and gave her weighty, perspicacious thoughts on the most vital and important issue of our day.

No, I speak not of the four wars we're currently involved in or the fact that millions of Americans are unemployed. Instead, she gave her thoughts on Weinergate, the time-wasting, vastly unimportant scandal involving U.S. Representative and professional doofus Anthony Weiner.

Anthony Weiner deserves to be supported and hopefully he will be mayor of New York one day. I'm serious. He is a Democrat [who] actually fights for the things liberals and progressive and rational people care about... I don't know why he's being thrown under the bus. He hasn't done any -- he hasn't broke any laws

As Newsbusters - another Garofalo fan site - points out, it sounds like she was about to say "he hasn't done anything wrong" but then realized that was wrong. Garofalo also didn't mention the strange timing where Weiner criticized Clarence Thomas' wife's financial links to the teaparty and just a few days later the scandal emerged. She also didn't mention that there are far more important things to be worried about.

Yet, somehow Naked Emperor News - someone whom I'm not a big fan of either - found their interview with Garfalo and is playing it for Garofalo's real base: the Glenn Beck fans at The Blaze.

In the interview, Janine Garrofalo says the "British Empire is the original douchebag empire where sh*tty Americans, sh*tty Australians come from". It's difficult to imagine that as anything other than an anti-WASP statement; some prejudices are acceptable to "liberals" like Janeane.

She then claims that to be a modern, Bush or Hannity style conservative is a character flaw: there's something wrong with their brains. Which, obviously, is a subject she's highly familiar with.

Leaving aside the obvious religious issues involved in Franken's speech, both the Democrats and the Republicans have pushed loose borders policies that have allowed large numbers of foreign construction workers to enter the U.S., in most cases illegally. Those foreign construction workers have increased competition for jobs and have helped drive down wages. And, all of that was supported by both the GOP and Democratic elites. Franken is trying to give comfort to someone who was harmed by the loose borders policies that Franken supports.

Needless to say, the Tea Party types are no help with that either. They almost completely ignored the immigration issue for over a year and their only response to the Franken video is to promote policies that would help the richest among us.

Senator Al Franken, he's calling you out! How will Franken respond? Will he challenge Schneider to a ComicOff, or with legislation? Asked about Schultz’s account, Gibbs emailed that in their private talk, he strongly took issue with Schultz’s claim that the health care bill is a gift to the insurance industry.

It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America's business. This past year has seen a "perfect storm" in the media industry generally. National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry's long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing times.

It's unfortunate that megastar talent like Lionel couldn't turn them around, and this site sincerely wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors. It's sad to see that one of the few ways for liberals to get their message out has been silenced; perhaps they'll be forced to turn to mimeographed samizdat in order to counter-act the establishment's lies.

As for this site, we started the day before Air America, and we'll still be around. Will we convert this into a site containing pictures of Janeane Garofalo when she was cute? A site keeping you up-to-date on Lionel's latest thoughts? Will we monitor CSPAN at 3am to see the moment when Al Franken throws his first chair on the Senate floor? All those are under consideration. Stay tuned.

I tell you what, if I lived in Massachusetts I'd try to vote 10 times. I don't know if they'd let me or not, but I'd try to. Yeah, that's right. I'd cheat to keep these bastards out. I would. 'Cause that's exactly what they are.

Bear in mind that just a few days ago he was being pushed to run for Senator from North Dakota.

[He] told the Huffington Post that "there is a lot to think about" after he was approached by Democratic leaders in the state about a possible run. But the possibility is there, even if a decision is far off.

"The phone call from [North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party leader] Merle Boucher is certainly new territory for me," said Schultz.

The MSNBC host, who has lengthy ties to the state, said he was called last night by Dorgan who, in a rather suggestive question, asked Schultz how old he was. Hours later Boucher was on the phone asking Schultz to consider a run for the Senate seat.

"I asked him very point-blank if this was an official ask." Schultz said. "He said, 'Yes it is'. I'm flattered. I'm honored."

Franken invited [Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.)] to his office to discuss an op-ed that Corker penned in a Tennessee newspaper opposing an amendment Franken offered to a defense bill. The measure gave the employees of defense contractors who suffer rape or sexual assault at the workplace the right to sue in court.

The meeting quickly deteriorated when Franken began berating one of Corker’s aides, according to GOP aides familiar with the incident. Franken’s sally was so harsh that Corker told Franken to lay off his aide and direct the comments at him instead.

Franken’s tough approach came as a surprise because Corker scheduled the meeting to mend fences after Franken confronted him about the op-ed during an angry exchange on the Senate floor.

Another GOP staffer, an aide to a Senate Republican leader, found herself at the sharp end of Franken’s wit at a recent reception in the Senate’s Mansfield Room. The tongue-lashing took place at an event to celebrate the swearing-in of GOP Sen. George LeMieux (Fla.).

After the conversation began ordinarily, Franken started to grill the aide about what he sees as the failings of the GOP. Franken demanded to know why it had become the "Party of No" and had exaggerated facts in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, according to another GOP leadership aide.

A spokeswoman for Franken declined to comment on either exchange.
