It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America's business. This past year has seen a "perfect storm" in the media industry generally. National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry's long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing times.

It's unfortunate that megastar talent like Lionel couldn't turn them around, and this site sincerely wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors. It's sad to see that one of the few ways for liberals to get their message out has been silenced; perhaps they'll be forced to turn to mimeographed samizdat in order to counter-act the establishment's lies.

As for this site, we started the day before Air America, and we'll still be around. Will we convert this into a site containing pictures of Janeane Garofalo when she was cute? A site keeping you up-to-date on Lionel's latest thoughts? Will we monitor CSPAN at 3am to see the moment when Al Franken throws his first chair on the Senate floor? All those are under consideration. Stay tuned.

Bear in mind that just a few days ago he was being pushed to run for Senator from North Dakota.

[He] told the Huffington Post that "there is a lot to think about" after he was approached by Democratic leaders in the state about a possible run. But the possibility is there, even if a decision is far off.

"The phone call from [North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party leader] Merle Boucher is certainly new territory for me," said Schultz.

The MSNBC host, who has lengthy ties to the state, said he was called last night by Dorgan who, in a rather suggestive question, asked Schultz how old he was. Hours later Boucher was on the phone asking Schultz to consider a run for the Senate seat.

"I asked him very point-blank if this was an official ask." Schultz said. "He said, 'Yes it is'. I'm flattered. I'm honored."

Franken invited [Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.)] to his office to discuss an op-ed that Corker penned in a Tennessee newspaper opposing an amendment Franken offered to a defense bill. The measure gave the employees of defense contractors who suffer rape or sexual assault at the workplace the right to sue in court.

The meeting quickly deteriorated when Franken began berating one of Corker’s aides, according to GOP aides familiar with the incident. Franken’s sally was so harsh that Corker told Franken to lay off his aide and direct the comments at him instead.

Franken’s tough approach came as a surprise because Corker scheduled the meeting to mend fences after Franken confronted him about the op-ed during an angry exchange on the Senate floor.

Another GOP staffer, an aide to a Senate Republican leader, found herself at the sharp end of Franken’s wit at a recent reception in the Senate’s Mansfield Room. The tongue-lashing took place at an event to celebrate the swearing-in of GOP Sen. George LeMieux (Fla.).

After the conversation began ordinarily, Franken started to grill the aide about what he sees as the failings of the GOP. Franken demanded to know why it had become the "Party of No" and had exaggerated facts in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, according to another GOP leadership aide.

A spokeswoman for Franken declined to comment on either exchange.

Because Arianna had been on there, I'm on there, Howard Dean had been on there and they wanted some balance... There's absolutely nothing wrong with that! Just accepting feedback from the White House doesn't mean that they're colluding with them or under their control or anything. In order to determine whether that's true, you have to look at their actions, and it's not like Scarborough then did everything that the Obama administration wants or something. Free will and impartial, unbiased coverage is still the tune they sing at MSNBC! There is absolutely nothing wrong about accepting input from administration figures. In fact, the administration has been in contact with this site and has offered some highly useful tips on improving our coverage. That doesn't mean we're controlled by them or anything.

Per the Minnesota GOP (link):

"Al Franken's petty and petulant behavior on…the floor of the U.S. Senate is an embarrassment to our state... In just six months, Franken has established himself as the most uncivil and ineffective senator in Minnesota history." ...Franken spokesman Jess McIntosh said Franken was merely following orders from his party's leaders, who asked that floor speeches be kept within their time limits to keep the debate moving.

Interesting. This non-story shows that Franken is low-class, but we already knew that. However, the deeper issue is that this is a distraction and it might have been planned, with the Dem leadership trying to distract Americans from their bill.

The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and its partners Round Hill and Air Jamaica provided support to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Waterkeeper Alliance, during the recently held Iberostar Jamaica Celebrity Sports Invitational at Iberostar Rose Hall Grand Hotel in Montego Bay.

The four-day sports event saw a number of celebrities from across the United States competing in golf, kayaking, beach volleyball and a scavenger hunt, all designed to showcase the diverse offerings of Jamaica and the host hotel, Iberostar. The event also included themed Jamaican beach parties, a celebrity poker tournament, a gala dinner and a live auction, proceeds from which benefitted the Waterkeeper Alliance.

Round Hill contributed a seven day/six night stay in a two-bedroom villa with private pool while Air Jamaica donated a pair of Lovebird Executive class round-trip tickets from one of its U.S. gateways.

Needless to say, Air America doesn't learn too good, and they're going to be conducting a new cruise in March of 2010 (airamericacruise.com). Not only that, but they're giving away a free cruise to a lucky blogger (airamerica.com/news/11-16-2009/win-cruise-air-america). And, their listeners can vote on who they want to give a valuable prize to. Yes, that's right: you can vote on who gets to go on a vacation. Yes, the cabin is probably on the Engine Deck, but even so.

Air America celebrities who you can ply with liquor in the hopes of getting them to say something even dumber than what they're heretofore said will include Rachel Maddow, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Ron Reagan, Lionel, David Bender (who?), and... Howard Dean.

And, another difference between them and the HuffPo is that their traffic appears to be only slightly higher than this site. While a popular, red meat HuffPost post might generate hundreds or thousands of comments, liberal red meat like "Top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Michele Bachmann" only has... 19 comments. This post has generated more comments.

Obviously, we need a Fairness Doctrine for the web too.

Both the slavery and James Earl Ray quotes are made up; they were added to wikiquote.org without sourcing information and then printed in a book by Jack Huberman. See the last link for our June post discussing how the smear started. Note also that Miller's repeating of the false quotes occurred after other sources had admitted that they were unable to verify them, even if those other sources didn't have the integrity to issue full corrections and apologies.

Instead of taking Miller to task for her smears, expect many ethically-challenged "liberals" to hand-wave her smears away.

It's obvious to anybody who has eyes in this country that tea-baggers, the 9-12ers, these separatist groups that pretend that it's about policy – they are clearly white-identity movements. They're clearly white power movements. What they don't like about the President is that he's black – or half black (applause) – and they, what also is shocking is that people keep pretending that that's not really the case with these people.

I'm not talking about people that do have problems with his policies, that's fine. But these people, who are also being led by the Glenn Becks, the Michelle Bachmans, the Rush Limbows [presumably Limbaugh], whomever, they are no different than any other white identify movement that's part of our history. This has been going on since the founding of this country that white power movements have tried to establish themselves and hold onto power.

It's very weird that whenever this comes up in conversation, so few people are willing to say that yes it is racism, straight up racism. And the Republican Party has been willing to carry water for racists in this country since about the 1950s. (Applause)

Electorally, these white power people don't have their own party – maybe they will one day – so they are electorally-dependent on the Republicans. But also troubling, Fox News is happy to feed into this; AM radio is happy to feed into this. They will continue to do this til somebody does something.

What you're saying [Thomas Friedman] is absolutely true, there's this tacit nudging towards violence. Then also, how about showing up armed? What if black people showed up armed at a McCain rally? What would be the response of that?

MSNBC security immediately rushed in and had him committed for his own safety. He is currently being held at the Fargo Hospital and Vocational Training Center for the Treatment of Mental Disorders and the possibility of him regaining whatever sanity he had before is considered remote.
