As it turns out, she's acting in an off-Broadway play "Love, Loss, and What I Wore" which she accepted because she wasn't getting many other offers:

It's been hard in entertainment as a 45-year-old woman to find jobs...

She then reveals that she regularly takes Botox and wears Spanx, which are slimming undergarments. She then begs for work:

I'm actually going to England in March to film Ideal, [a] British show I love... I would do anything over there, Ireland, Scotland. I'm a sucker for any guy with an accent with any kind. Then I'm going to Australia for stand-up. And coming back to America and getting a job, with your help.

Consider this an open thread, perhaps with links to accent reduction services.

Big Dumb Ed Schultz has a career in professional wrestling, specifically the part where they pretend to fight. He said the following at an event yesterday:

I told [White House spokesman Robert Gibbs] he was full of sh*t is what I told him... And then he gave me the Dick Cheney f-bomb... I told Robert Gibbs, I said "And I’m sorry you’re swearing at me, but I’m just trying to help you out. I’m telling you you’re losing your base. Do you understand you’re losing your base?"

The other thoughts of Big Dumb Ed can be obtained on the video: peekURL.com/vnmt9j7

P.S. This is the first post after Air America went bankrupt. As you can see, that event was as inconsequential as most of the other things they did.

UPDATE: Now, Comrade Gibbs has challenged Schultz to the Gorilla Steel Cage Match live at WWF2010! From this:

Asked about Schultz’s account, Gibbs emailed that in their private talk, he strongly took issue with Schultz’s claim that the health care bill is a gift to the insurance industry.

Gibbs adds that he demanded Schultz tell him “why he’d tell his viewers something so completely and knowingly wrong in an attempt to get people to watch his show.”

Effective immediately, Air America Radio will be shutting down operations and filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. According to a statement that takes up the front page of their website:

It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America's business. This past year has seen a "perfect storm" in the media industry generally. National and local advertising revenues have fallen drastically, causing many media companies nationwide to fold or seek bankruptcy protection. From large to small, recent bankruptcies like Citadel Broadcasting and closures like that of the industry's long-time trade publication Radio and Records have signaled that these are very difficult and rapidly changing times.

It's unfortunate that megastar talent like Lionel couldn't turn them around, and this site sincerely wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors. It's sad to see that one of the few ways for liberals to get their message out has been silenced; perhaps they'll be forced to turn to mimeographed samizdat in order to counter-act the establishment's lies.

As for this site, we started the day before Air America, and we'll still be around. Will we convert this into a site containing pictures of Janeane Garofalo when she was cute? A site keeping you up-to-date on Lionel's latest thoughts? Will we monitor CSPAN at 3am to see the moment when Al Franken throws his first chair on the Senate floor? All those are under consideration. Stay tuned.

On Tuesday, Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota announced he won't be seeking reelection. Now comes word that MSNBC host Big Dumb Ed Schultz is considering a run for his seat (link):

[He] told the Huffington Post that "there is a lot to think about" after he was approached by Democratic leaders in the state about a possible run. But the possibility is there, even if a decision is far off.

"The phone call from [North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party leader] Merle Boucher is certainly new territory for me," said Schultz.

The MSNBC host, who has lengthy ties to the state, said he was called last night by Dorgan who, in a rather suggestive question, asked Schultz how old he was. Hours later Boucher was on the phone asking Schultz to consider a run for the Senate seat.

"I asked him very point-blank if this was an official ask." Schultz said. "He said, 'Yes it is'. I'm flattered. I'm honored."

The article here details some of the verbal confrontations Senator Al Franken has had in just one short month in office. He hasn't yet reached the level of smashing chairs live on CSPAN at 3am, but give him time:

Franken invited [Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.)] to his office to discuss an op-ed that Corker penned in a Tennessee newspaper opposing an amendment Franken offered to a defense bill. The measure gave the employees of defense contractors who suffer rape or sexual assault at the workplace the right to sue in court.

The meeting quickly deteriorated when Franken began berating one of Corker’s aides, according to GOP aides familiar with the incident. Franken’s sally was so harsh that Corker told Franken to lay off his aide and direct the comments at him instead.

Franken’s tough approach came as a surprise because Corker scheduled the meeting to mend fences after Franken confronted him about the op-ed during an angry exchange on the Senate floor.

Another GOP staffer, an aide to a Senate Republican leader, found herself at the sharp end of Franken’s wit at a recent reception in the Senate’s Mansfield Room. The tongue-lashing took place at an event to celebrate the swearing-in of GOP Sen. George LeMieux (Fla.).

After the conversation began ordinarily, Franken started to grill the aide about what he sees as the failings of the GOP. Franken demanded to know why it had become the "Party of No" and had exaggerated facts in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, according to another GOP leadership aide.

A spokeswoman for Franken declined to comment on either exchange.

I've been a fan of the "Radio Equalizer" for some time, but I think after his latest "scoop" he needs to take a "radio tranquilizer" or something! He offers this Drudge-linked article in which he implies that Joe Scarborough and his morning zoo team at MSNBC are part of the so-called "state-controlled media", based on the lunatic ramblings of "Crazy Ed" Schultz:

So [Mika Brzezinski] starts looking at her Blackberry [live on the air] and so does Scarborough and obviously the White House is texting them or emailing them or whatever and they didn't like the show. Because Arianna had been on there, I'm on there, Howard Dean had been on there and they wanted some balance... Now think about that - here's the White House getting in contact with 'Morning Joe' because they're afraid there's too many lefties on the air! Now if that's not sensitivity at its highest level, I don't know what is! I told ya a few days ago they had rabbit ears! They don't like anything that's being said right now, they're getting beat up!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that! Just accepting feedback from the White House doesn't mean that they're colluding with them or under their control or anything. In order to determine whether that's true, you have to look at their actions, and it's not like Scarborough then did everything that the Obama administration wants or something. Free will and impartial, unbiased coverage is still the tune they sing at MSNBC! There is absolutely nothing wrong about accepting input from administration figures. In fact, the administration has been in contact with this site and has offered some highly useful tips on improving our coverage. That doesn't mean we're controlled by them or anything.

Lieberman had already blathered on for ten minutes but wanted to finish his thoughts; Franken denied his request.

Per the Minnesota GOP (link):

"Al Franken's petty and petulant behavior on…the floor of the U.S. Senate is an embarrassment to our state... In just six months, Franken has established himself as the most uncivil and ineffective senator in Minnesota history." ...Franken spokesman Jess McIntosh said Franken was merely following orders from his party's leaders, who asked that floor speeches be kept within their time limits to keep the debate moving.

Interesting. This non-story shows that Franken is low-class, but we already knew that. However, the deeper issue is that this is a distraction and it might have been planned, with the Dem leadership trying to distract Americans from their bill.

Apparently the paycheck he gets from Air America Radio isn't enough to pay his bills, because Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is currently featured in an infomercial for a Jamaican hotel called "Iberostar". The commercial features him together with such stellar talent as John O'Hurley ("Family Feud") and Carl Weathers ("Rocky") and others even the most ardent fan wouldn't recognize.

In one scene, two nobodies visited a tourist trap and then welcomed a visibly uncomfortable Kennedy; perhaps he was just an unwitting infomercial participant who thought he'd get away with a luxurious "seven day/six night stay" (link):

The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and its partners Round Hill and Air Jamaica provided support to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Waterkeeper Alliance, during the recently held Iberostar Jamaica Celebrity Sports Invitational at Iberostar Rose Hall Grand Hotel in Montego Bay.

The four-day sports event saw a number of celebrities from across the United States competing in golf, kayaking, beach volleyball and a scavenger hunt, all designed to showcase the diverse offerings of Jamaica and the host hotel, Iberostar. The event also included themed Jamaican beach parties, a celebrity poker tournament, a gala dinner and a live auction, proceeds from which benefitted the Waterkeeper Alliance.

Round Hill contributed a seven day/six night stay in a two-bedroom villa with private pool while Air Jamaica donated a pair of Lovebird Executive class round-trip tickets from one of its U.S. gateways.

Of course, his price is probably a bit higher than others'; Randi Rhodes would do something similar for three days and two nights at the Gold Spike Hotel & Casino in Vegas.

A few years ago, Air America conducted a chartered cruise for their listeners; it was called off after the third day when a drunken Randi Rhodes led the more further-left among the passengers to mutiny. She was eventually subdued but, because the incident occurred inside Guyanan waters she was able to get off with just a fine.

Needless to say, Air America doesn't learn too good, and they're going to be conducting a new cruise in March of 2010 (airamericacruise.com). Not only that, but they're giving away a free cruise to a lucky blogger (airamerica.com/news/11-16-2009/win-cruise-air-america). And, their listeners can vote on who they want to give a valuable prize to. Yes, that's right: you can vote on who gets to go on a vacation. Yes, the cabin is probably on the Engine Deck, but even so.

Air America celebrities who you can ply with liquor in the hopes of getting them to say something even dumber than what they're heretofore said will include Rachel Maddow, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Ron Reagan, Lionel, David Bender (who?), and... Howard Dean.

Sometime when I wasn't constantly monitoring them, Air America Radio created a snazzy new website (airamerica.com) which, according to the title graphic, is "Beta". (Of course, that might be the final title, since most of their ideas have a beta if not an alpha feel to them). Be that as it may, it's basically just the Huffington Post, but without a webmistress with a funny accent. They have the same Big Graphic right at the top of the page, the same liberal-oriented stories, and the same penchant for the Heartwarming and Wacky, such as the investigative report entitled "WATCH: The World's Fasted Turtle". One thing that's missing: "celebrity" nobodies to tell you what they had for lunch and opine on the news of the day (they do, however, have Brent Budowsky whoever that is.)

And, another difference between them and the HuffPo is that their traffic appears to be only slightly higher than this site. While a popular, red meat HuffPost post might generate hundreds or thousands of comments, liberal red meat like "Top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Michele Bachmann" only has... 19 comments. This post has generated more comments.

Obviously, we need a Fairness Doctrine for the web too.

Earlier today on the Stephanie Miller show, she and her co-horts repeated at least two completely bogus Rush Limbaugh quotes. Video is below, and a transcript of the segment is here.

Both the slavery and James Earl Ray quotes are made up; they were added to wikiquote.org without sourcing information and then printed in a book by Jack Huberman. See the last link for our June post discussing how the smear started. Note also that Miller's repeating of the false quotes occurred after other sources had admitted that they were unable to verify them, even if those other sources didn't have the integrity to issue full corrections and apologies.

Instead of taking Miller to task for her smears, expect many ethically-challenged "liberals" to hand-wave her smears away.

Apparently Janeane Garofalo lost out the extras role in Chained Heat: the Musical because on last night's Bill Maher show on <s>BHO</s> HBO she - for about the umpteenth time - smeared the "Tea Parties" and affiliated movements. While I'm not the greatest fan of those "parties" - and especially their leaders - Garofalo is mischaracterizing them and is actually helping them recruit new members. Moreover, she's not lifting the discourse in the U.S. but is simply playing the standard "liberal" race card. She's like an unfunny comic who's telling dumb, antiquated jokes. Per this, here's some of what she said:

It's obvious to anybody who has eyes in this country that tea-baggers, the 9-12ers, these separatist groups that pretend that it's about policy – they are clearly white-identity movements. They're clearly white power movements. What they don't like about the President is that he's black – or half black (applause) – and they, what also is shocking is that people keep pretending that that's not really the case with these people.

I'm not talking about people that do have problems with his policies, that's fine. But these people, who are also being led by the Glenn Becks, the Michelle Bachmans, the Rush Limbows [presumably Limbaugh], whomever, they are no different than any other white identify movement that's part of our history. This has been going on since the founding of this country that white power movements have tried to establish themselves and hold onto power.

It's very weird that whenever this comes up in conversation, so few people are willing to say that yes it is racism, straight up racism. And the Republican Party has been willing to carry water for racists in this country since about the 1950s. (Applause)

Electorally, these white power people don't have their own party – maybe they will one day – so they are electorally-dependent on the Republicans. But also troubling, Fox News is happy to feed into this; AM radio is happy to feed into this. They will continue to do this til somebody does something.

What you're saying [Thomas Friedman] is absolutely true, there's this tacit nudging towards violence. Then also, how about showing up armed? What if black people showed up armed at a McCain rally? What would be the response of that?

Obviously, Bill Maher doesn't have the intellectual capacity where he could invite people on his show who can point out how he and his guests are wrong, but it might be interesting if someone could ask Janeane what she thinks of establishment-approved racial power groups such as the NCLR.

Earlier yesterday or the day before or some time like that, MSNBC host and "progressive" icon Ed Schultz melted down on his show and accused the Republicans of lying. Not only that, but he said that they "want to see you dead".

MSNBC security immediately rushed in and had him committed for his own safety. He is currently being held at the Fargo Hospital and Vocational Training Center for the Treatment of Mental Disorders and the possibility of him regaining whatever sanity he had before is considered remote.

Plucky U-movie actress Janeane Garofalo - who recently auditioned for the extras role of Edith in Chained Heat 7: Babes on Fire - continues to plead for attention and help the Tea Parties recruit new members. Analysts from the Ayn Rand Institute estimate that every time she calls the Tea Partiers names she helps them gain two to three thousand new members. It would be more if anyone cared what she thought, but rest assured that Americans for Prosperity and other "grassroots" groups are happy to hear her say things like this:

"Do you remember tea baggers?... It was just so much easier when we could just call them racists. I just don't know why we can't call them racists, or functionally retarded adults."
